Contact us today for a quote on a complete, pre-engineered small wind system, on or off grid. Your custom designed system will include everything you'll need to begin harvesting energy from the wind. Below is a list of equipment needed for a simple and reliable grid-connected system:

  • SMA Windy Boy Inverters
  • 1, 2, or 3 depending on system design. We now offer a custom programming service to optimize your inverter's performance with the turbine and site-specific wind conditions.

  • SMA Protection Box/Controller
  • 1, 2, or 3 Protection Boxes depending on system design. The type and model of controller depends on the turbine model and whether wind system is grid-connected or battery-charging.

  • Diversion Loads (aka Dump Loads or Load Resistors)
  • 1, 2, or 3 DC-rated heating elements depending on system design to match controller requirements.

  • Pre-engineered tower
  • Tilt-up or self-supporting lattice

  • Slip Rings
  • Slip rings are a highly recommended option for all turbines.

  • Junction Box
  • Located at top of tower and shipped with switchgear, for weather-proof connections from turbine to down-tower conduit.

  • Turbine Brake Switch
  • Located at base of tower and shipped with switchgear, for electrical braking of turbine.

  • AC Disconnect Switch
  • This is a safety/maintenance disconnect switch for unregulated AC input into the Load Controller or SMA Protection Box. It is shipped with the switchgear package.

  • DC Disconnect Switch
  • This is a safety/maintenance disconnect switch for regulated DC input into the inverter(s). It is shipped with the switchgear package.

  • CWC Data Aquisition and web-based monitoring system
  • Like slip rings, data systems are a highly recommended option for all small wind systems.

  • Detailed electrical schematic and installation manual
  • These manuals are continuously updated on our website.

The dealer-installer is responsible for sourcing the following materials locally:

  • Sch40 4in or 5in galvanized pipe for tilt-up tower (Passaat only)
  • Down-tower wiring and conduit (typ. 3/4in LFMC)
  • Underground wiring and conduit from tower base to location of BOS equipment (typ. 2in rigid PVC)
  • Wiring, wireway and conduit for grouped BOS components
  • AC kWh meter + meter socket for permanent record of system energy output
  • Point-of-connection circuit breaker(s)
  • Point-of-connection AC disconnect switch (May be required by utility)
